One of the best Crypt bands with an incredible sense
of the rhythm. Now they're gone ...but they're still
somewhere, with Los Primos, Vikings and so on ...

Stay Out All Night, Live 1988-1993 (Rat Bastard) Rat Bastards : New Jersey, September, 88 Gimmie That Girl, + covers of the the Real Kids and Dictators Andy and Steve played in the RB before the DD Devil Dogs : Maxwell's NY, Long Gone / Stay Out All Night / Time Enough For Love / North Shore Bitch ... Democrazy, Gent (Belgium) October 24, 1993 Saturday Night Fever cuts Vera Club, Augsburg (Germany) May 5, 1991 |
1) I'd like to know more about the recording conditions
of each studio album and your opinion about them now. OK, THE FIRST THREE L.P.'S WERE DONE AT COYOTE STUDIOS IN BROOKLYN,NY. FIRST L.P. WAS 8-TRACK, THE NEXT TWO WERE 16-TRACK. SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER WAS DONE AT EGG STUDIOS IN SEATTLE, ALSO 16-TRACK. STEREO DRIVE WAS 16-TRACK ADAT WHICH IS WHY THE SOUND IS'NT THE GREATEST, BUT I FEEL THE SONGS WERE SOME OF OUR BEST! |
> and more specifically > 1a) the split of the Rat Bastards during the 1st LP. IT WOUND UP TO BE A BLESSING 'CAUSE THE OTHER TWO GUYS DID'NT WANT THE BILLY CHILDISH SONGS ON THERE OR ANY SONGS ABOUT FUCKIN' OR ANYTHING LIKE THAT. SO FUCK THEM, THAT'S WHAT ROCK-N-ROLL IS ALL ABOUT! |
> 1b) the training for the recording of Saturday Night Fever. WE HAD DEMOED THE SONGS THEN DID A FULL US TOUR PLAYING THOSE SONGS EVERY NIGHT FOR TWO WEEKS BEFORE THE RECORDING, AND THAT'S WHY IT'S US AT OUR BEST!! WE RECORDED FIVE DAYS STAIGHT AND PLAYED THREE SHOWS AT NIGHT! DON'T KNOW WHAT OTHER BAND COULD DO IT, BUT WE WERE THAT DEDICATED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
> 2) Was the Live at the Revolver LP a Imposible ripoff ? NOT AT ALL, THEY WANTED MORE SONGS FOR THE RECORD BUT HONESTLY THERE WAS ONLY THE ONES PUT ON THE RECORD THAT WERE GOOD ENOUGH FOR OUR STANDARDS. I THINK IMPOSSIBLE THOUGHT WE WERE TRYING TO RIP THEM OFF, BUT THAT WAS'NT THE CASE. |
> Do you like the live albums issued by the band ? YES THEY GOOD, WE ALWAYS HAD LABELS WANTING ANYTHING WE DID, BUT WE WERE TRYING NOT TO DO TO MUCH. WE WANTED TO LEAVE THEM WANTING MORE!!!! |
> 3) Did you play jazz trumpet ? Have you played it in the Devil Dogs ? I STUDIED JAZZ AND CLASSICAL MUSIC FROM THE TIME I WAS TEN YRS. OLD, UNTIL I RELIZED NOT ENOUGH TRUMPET IN ROCK-N-ROLL, SO I STARTED PLAYING BASS AT SIXTEEN. THE DOGS NEVER HAD ANY TRUMPET, A LITTLE SAX ON THE FIRST L.P. AND ON STEREO DRIVE. |
> 4) How did you make the deals with Crypt ? IT WAS ALL VERBAL AND HAND SHAKES, WHICH WAS AWESOME AND WE WERE ABLE TO DO ANYTHING WITH ANY OTHER LABEL WE WANTED. IT WAS PAT TODD OF THE COWGIRLS WHO TAUGHT ME TO BE VERY SELECTIVE WITH WHO WE DID BUSINESS WITH, HE REALLY OPENED MY EYES TO ALOT AND I TOOK HIS ADVICE AND IT WORKED GREAT FOR US!!!!! |
> 5) You did the first European Crypt tours, how did you feel ? WE FELT GREAT, ONCE CRYPT HAD A 1/2 DOZEN BANDS DOING IT, THERE WAS ALWAYS ONE BAND ON TIM'S SHITLIST! IT WAS US AFTER WE THREE KINGS, BUT HE HAD JUST MOVED TO GERMANY AND WE HAD TO DO EVERYTHING!!! INCLUDING THE MASTERING WHICH WE KNEW NOTHING ABOUT, AND THAT'S WHY THAT RECORD SOUNDED SO/SO. |
> 6) It seems that at the time the DD have been more popular > in Europe/Japan than in the US. But from 2000, they > have gained in the US more recognition ? YEA THAT MAY BE TRUE, CAUSE CRYPT WAS NOT GETTING THE DISTRO IT NEEDED, BUT THAT DID'NT REALLY BOTHER US THAT MUCH CAUSE WE KICKED ASS IN EUROPE AND JAPAN, AND IT WAS A FREE VACATION FOR ME AND OTHERWISE I PROBABLE WOULD'NT HAD DONE ANY OF THE TRAVELING I DID. WE DID DO WELL IN THE BIG US CITIES,BUT THERE'S NOTHING IN BETWEEN THOSE CITIES AND NOWHERE TO PLAY. WE ALSO DID GREAT IN CANADA, JUST LIKE EUROPE...I.E....... FOOD, HOTELS, PAID WELL AND LOTSA FOLKS AT THE SHOWS. |
> just for info : > Did the Choad Blast thing was recorded at the same session as Saturday Night Fever ? YES, WE DID TWENTY SONGS DURING THAT SESSION, EVERYTHING WAS SPLIT THREE WAYS ( THE $$$) CRYPT, S.F.T.R.I., AND EMPTY RECORDS. WE WERE LOVING IT!!!!! |
> When was recorded the Devil dog road 7" ? SAME SESSION AS BIG BEEF BONANZA! |
